i think it's time for me to tell you what should happen, but they don't the BALZ to do it. and believe me, it'd take some big ones.
today i have two, 2, ways to fix everything:
they are as follows...
#1 RAISE TAXES.
you read that right. raise'm up. taxes should be raised so that they always match or exceed current government spending.
wanna do somethin? no problem. just make us pay for it. somehow i doubt the second gulf war would have drawn on as long or even started at all if we had to pay for it.
we might be a little more choosy about what we spend our $ if we felt the pinch of having to pay for it. deficit spending is like credit cards. it's easy for a pizza and a six pack to become "emergency spending" when you don't have to pay for it till later. whenever that is.
maybe our politicians would be more mindfull of their actions if they directly effected our pocketbook, and thus their approval rating/votes.
#2 $5 a gallon gasoline.
it just might save the world. did you see what happened when gas was four bucks? alt energies were in full effect!
the only reason we're still stuck with gas powered transportation and fossil fuel powered electric grid is because it's CHEAP! as the oil prices have decreased, so has the talk of REAL investment into other energy sources.
sure, behind the scenes stuff continues, but until the general public is onboard and talking about it consistently, real change won't happen, and we will all die.
i believe in capitolism. i think it will work. when the price gets high enough, change will occur. change you can believe in.

5 dollars a gallon? Um. Not gonna work. Where I live, it's been 8 dollars a gallon for years, and more and more people are driving every day, regardless. But okay, Americans love their cheap gas, so 5 bucks is a good place to start.
The fact that the price of oil has gone down is misleading. It will stay low. The fuckers who want to earn money selling the lethal stuff will sell it to us for cheap until the very last drop is gone.
oh..i don't think either of the things mentioned in the blog will happen.

you may know better, but i tend to think $5/gal in the usa is a lot different than $8 in denmark. how many in denmark commute to work 40-60miles each way 5 days a week? when the millions here have to pay $5 a gallon, the market would then be willing to pay for alternate infrastructure/energies.
i somewhat agree with you. the price of energy from fossil fuels will stay low, not 1.50 for gas low. we'll head back up to the 3 dollar range this summer. i think we'll get more spikes in price. even with the world economic slowdown, china's and india's demand for all commodities including fossil fuels is going to grow like crazy. in two years oil will be above 80.
that going along with the large inflation we'll see at the time.

And the taxes? Man you guys have been getting off cheap! I'm in the lowest tax bracket here, and I pay 39%. The highest pays 60%, plus an bonus tax on just being a fucking rich bastard. And they can still afford a nice Amarone to accompany dinner. US should definitely try it.
Oh, but that would mean people would expect stuff for their money. Like free health care. And that would never fly...
